    Mine is a S&W M&P Shield Plus 9, and she doesn't have a name. Not a
bad idea though, I may work on that.

Mine is a Shield .40 - have thought so many times about upgrading to
a 'plus' for the extra rounds, flat trigger, etc. Thought about the
    .30 Super but not sure...

The new Springfield mod 3 something... Great price point! Just got
to put my hands on it...

Yeah, I'm a little leery of the .30 Super. In the Shield you get 3
additional rounds as compared to the 9mm, which is a BIG deal. But, a significantly lighter bullet (100gr vs 124gr) at only 100fps faster.
I've got to think that is less "stopping power".

Another factor in favor of the 9 is how common it is, and widely
available. In a SHTF scenario, you can find/take ammo and mags much
    easier.

For now at least, the .30 Super doesn't do it for me.

As for the .40, I'm less of a fan than I used to be. Strong round no
doubt, but a little snappy and lower magazine capacity for a given size
of pistol. With modern ammo technology, I think the 9 is a better
choice. There's a reason the FBI and many/most police departments have switched (back) to the 9mm. One place that I'd still carry the .40 (not
as a CC) would be a sidearm while out in the woods hunting with a rifle. Would rather have the extra punch if needed for a coyote or similar.

The new Springfield mod 3 something... Great price point! Just got

Yes, the newest member of the XD family. Always liked them (and the
XDM), and that is indeed a nice price point. Hard for me to switch away
    from S&W though.

Yeah, which is partly why I haven't gone from the .40 to the 9. If
more rounds is always better, then no reason not to go to the
.30 SC. Ballistics seem to be about like a .327 Magnum.

But then again, a .22 magnum is about a .32 ACP in terms of ballistics
(or at least that is what I read a few years ago) so if 'more is
better' I should go with that. LOL

Another factor in favor of the 9 is how common it is, and widely available. In a SHTF scenario, you can find/take ammo and mags much easier.

Makes sense for a common mag, like a Glock... I have a 9mm Sub 2000
    that uses Glock mags.

For now at least, the .30 Super doesn't do it for me.

Yeah - same - it's interesting, but so is the 5.7... Never shot
    either though.

As for the .40, I'm less of a fan than I used to be. Strong round no doubt, but a little snappy and lower magazine capacity for a given size
    of pistol.

Definately more snappy! And my Shield has 7 rounds in the magazine, vs
    what - 13? for a Shield Plus 9mm?

With modern ammo technology, I think the 9 is a better
choice. There's a reason the FBI and many/most police departments have switched (back) to the 9mm. One place that I'd still carry the .40

Good points. I'm not as quick to dismiss the .40. It does make a bigger
hole after all, and like you say vs a coyote or something. Always a
    balancing thing though. :-)

Not saying I'll trade the .40 in. :-) I replaced the springs and
polished all the insides a few years ago with an upgrade kit from
MCARBO. Man it's a lot smoother now!

But yeah I want to put my hands on the new Springfield. Would love to
shoot one, but at least want to hold it and see. There have been others
over the years that LOOK good, but just don't feel right when I hold
them. That's a big deal to me!

Oh - meant to say this about the snappiness of the .40. When my wife
got her SIG with the flat trigger I shot it and WOW is it smooth!

I love my Baretta 92FS. Large for some, just right for me :)

Some of us at work talk about our EDC's, referring to them w/ names. Mine

Ruger SP101 in 357 or FN509 - depends on where I'm going and my mood, sometimes both :)

    Cheers!

Late to the party but I currently carry a Sig P365x. It's a great gun but will be trading it in for something with better mag capacity and closer to the size of a Glock 19. As my alterego mentioned (Jaxson) the new Sig has caught my eye, but also curious how the Walther shoots. I have straight knuckles and the glock grips are uncomfortable to shoot -- and hard as hell to shoot straight without significant and ackward adjustment to the trigger finger. The sigs straight trigger is a really nice feature. My only complaint with my P365x is the magazine release is in the worst possible location and often comes loose.

What type of holster do each of you prefer? Lately I've been using a sticky that has been great for summer and shorts. Now switching back to a handmade leather a buddy of mine made at a local farmers market.

Springfield does seem to be coming out with some really nice guns / price points. The newer Springfield Echelon Comp 9mm is a great buy at $649 right now, optics ready, straight trigger, 17+1 .. I might shoot one at the range this weekend.

I've not shot a Smith & Wesson nor Springfield yet. I have been considering the S&M Bodyguard for a pocket carry, ruger also has a nice one I've been considering. First I need to replace my EDC then will focus on that. If you upgrade or try out the Springfield, let us know what you think!

Kinda late to this party myself, but for me it's usually a PT-145 Pro, S&W 645 or a 1911, depending on what the day's planned activities might be. I prefer the 645 over the 1911 and go with the 145 if I need something with a smaller frame for what's planned on the day. It should be fairly obvious that I generally engage in open carry, but that's not really that unusual given my geographic situation. Of course there's always a backup, which is a Grendel P12 in a pocket holster....

Regarding the holster, just depends on what I'm carrying. Usually OWB, at about 8 o'clock (yes, I AM left-handed), and usually either leather or Kydex. I try to stay away from the ballistic nylon stuff...
